Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Socket 775 CPU Cooler Reviews

I found mouting the fan tricky on a 790i Ultra since the NB cooler is quite huge.

its without a doubt the best cooler ive ever used.

I actually lapped mine with the finest possible wet/dry paper to give the surface a mirror finish

it keeps my QX9770 at around 30 degrees

This CPU Cooler is the most simplest and the most efficient CPU cooler available to date. The stats tell it all.

Sure it doesn't look as good as the Zalman CNPS9700 NT, but it works better, and its silent.

All of the reviews put the Thermalright Ultra-120 in the top bands. it makes no noise (because it has no fan, which is optional.). Great if you are looking for a noiseless system.

Compatible with:
INTEL - All Intel P4 LGA775 processors
AMD - Athlon64 / FX / X2 / Opteron all models (AM2 platforms will need to purchase the Ultra-120 AM2 adapter, which should be around $20)

Specs:
- Dimensions (L × W × H): 63.5 × 132 × 160.5 mm
- weight: 745 g
- Optional fan: recommend a 120mm

Considerations:
- quite heavy, so don't shake your PC :)
- quite large (you will need at least 155mm from CPU to case wall)
- the Ultra-120 can still be installed with most DIMM close to the CPU (if applicable)
- AM2 will need to purchase an extra bracket
- excellent quality components and welding.
- if you purchase a fan with _16db it will make *no noise* and you will never have to worry about monitoring CPU temps again.
- great for hot climates!

The Final Word:
http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/article.asp?CIID=84583
"If every degree matters and you want the best possible CPU temps on air then the eXtreme is the best heatsink to get – at least until Thermalright raises the bar once more."

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article646-page1.html
"The Ultra-120 is the most efficient heatsink we've tested, and ultimately, that's what counts. Despite concerns over fin spacing, it managed to beat the Scythe Ninja, even with our tough low-airflow test. Unless you're planning to cool the CPU passively, you can't do better than the Ultra-120."

"is the Thermalright Ultra-90 worth your $40 bucks? Hell ya!"
